Duncan Shaw DeMarsh is a Florida Army National Guard officer and conservative activist based in Volusia County, Florida. A lifelong Floridian and product of Volusia County, DeMarsh has built a record of civic and political leadership, and grassroots organizing that spans from local Republican politics to the halls of the Florida Legislature.
DeMarsh’s political involvement began early. While a student at Father Lopez Catholic High School in Daytona Beach, he served as Chairman of the Volusia County Teenage Republicans and Chairman of the Florida Federation of Teenage Republicans — building a statewide network of young conservatives before he had graduated high school. In 2017, he was named the Outstanding Teenage Republican of the Year by the National Teenage Republicans, the organization’s highest individual honor. The following year, while still a high school student, he worked on Governor Rick Scott’s successful United States Senate campaign, gaining firsthand experience in statewide electoral politics.
DeMarsh earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from James Madison University, where he also served as Virginia State Chair for Young Americans for Liberty (YAL). During his four years with YAL, he developed a reputation as a committed advocate for limited government, individual liberty, and fiscal responsibility — values he has carried throughout his career. He appeared on the FreedomWorks Save the Nation broadcast on Newsmax TV to warn young Americans about the dangers of deficit spending. He later earned a Master of Business Administration, with honors, from Stetson University’s College of Business.
In 2022, DeMarsh returned to his home county to serve as Volusia County’s field organizer for Governor Ron DeSantis’ historic reelection campaign. That same year, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army of the United States and entered the Florida Army National Guard, fulfilling a long-standing commitment to serve his state and country in uniform.
On the political front, DeMarsh founded and served as chairman of the West Volusia Young Republicans, building the organization from the ground up as a training ground for the next generation of Florida conservatives. He was later elected Vice Chairman of the Volusia County Republican Executive Committee (REC).
Professionally, DeMarsh has served as a Legislative Aide to State Representative Chase Tramont in the Florida House of Representatives, working at the intersection of policy and constituent services in Tallahassee.
DeMarsh is a prolific opinion writer whose letters to the editor and op-eds have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the Orlando Sentinel, the Ormond Beach Observer, and the West Volusia Beacon. He has also been featured in the Washington Examiner and the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Currently deployed with the Florida Army National Guard, DeMarsh continues to write, engage his community, and serve. Above all, Duncan’s greatest achievement is his marriage to his wife, Savanna.
